In the article “$300 Billion War Beneath the Street: Fighting to Replace America’s Water Pipes” by Tabuchi, Hiroko speaks about how the president of the water advisory in the United States is fighting to have all the old water pipes changed. This is important to many Americans because clean and uncontaminated water keeps people safe and healthy. While many Americans do believe it is safe to drink right out of the faucet, they are putting their trust into these companies. Contaminated water can cause many unnecessary sicknesses that can be easily avoided, and it shouldn’t be looked down upon.

The problem about these water pipes is that they are about 150 years old, over time erosion can occur and break down the pipes. This causing contamination to the water that can harm many people who drink tap water. It is important for us to have clean and uncontaminated water because we humans rely on the source of water to live. Not only is water healthy, water is also very abundant. Since it is not as scarce as other liquids it is what keeps us hydrated. Which is why I believe maintenance on water pipes should be yearly.
