Journal Entry #5
How does medical school destroy how doctors communicate with others?
During a person’s time in medical school they are trained to become robots. Remembering all these medical terminology, part of the body organs, cells takes a lot of effort. But knowing the patient and being able to communicate to them is another important factor. Instead of using words that are unknown to the patient, doctors should explain details in a way where the patient can understand, so it won’t cause them to worry. The reason why they have trouble informing patients in a simple way is because of the medical schools they were taught in according to Barfield. Doctors should come to understand that the patients themselves have no knowledge of the medical field and need an easier explanation.

Some doctors don’t try to get to know the patients instead they see them as some experiment or some lab rat. All they know is about their X-rays look like, their CAT scans, their MRIs and their medical record according to Barfield. All humans possess the feeling empathy, but that feeling sometimes can be lost. There is something going on within the medical schools where students sense of empathy is slowly diminishing according to Barfield. Doctors after years of training and learning have lost what makes them human, this can be fixed with a little help from society.
